About Trim Video
Cut the start, end, or middle out of a video without re-encoding the parts you keep. Pixel-perfect, frame-accurate trimming.
How trim video works
Trimming sounds simple, but most online trimmers re-encode the entire file, which is slow and loses a small amount of quality every time you do it. NextConvert uses keyframe-aware cutting wherever possible. We copy the video stream directly between keyframes so the kept portion is byte-identical to the source.
When your cut points fall between keyframes (which is most of the time if you set them by hand), we transparently re-encode just the leading and trailing fragments and stream-copy the middle. That gives you frame-accurate cuts without paying the encoding cost on the entire timeline.
The result: trims that complete in seconds for clips that would take minutes on traditional re-encode-everything tools, with zero visible quality drop.
When to use it
Remove dead air
Cut the silent first 30 seconds before you started talking, or the trailing pause at the end of a recording.
Extract a highlight
Pull the goal, the punchline, or the demo segment out of a long lecture, stream, or call recording.
Clip for social
Trim a long-form video down to 60 seconds for Reels, 90 seconds for Shorts, or 2:20 for TikTok.
Remove sensitive content
Cut a section that accidentally caught a credit card, a face, or a confidential screen before sharing.

Step-by-step guide
- 1
Upload the video
Drop a video onto the page. The first frame appears in the timeline as soon as the upload finishes.
- 2
Set start and end
Drag the two handles, or type timestamps directly (HH:MM:SS.mmm precision). You can also use the arrow keys for frame-by-frame nudging.
- 3
Preview, then trim
Hit Preview to see exactly what your kept clip looks like. Click Trim and we’ll produce the cut file for download.
Tips for the best result
- For social media, cut tight. The first 3 seconds decide whether a viewer keeps watching, so lead with the hook instead of an intro.
- If you need multiple clips out of one file, use the Split tool instead. You’ll get all of them in a single pass.
- Frame-accurate trimming sometimes adds a tiny re-encode at the cut edges. The middle is always untouched.
