About Crop Video

Reframe your video by cropping away unwanted edges. Useful for converting landscape clips to portrait for Reels, Shorts, and TikTok.

How crop video works

Cropping changes which pixels make it into the final frame. The most common reason isn’t removing junk at the edges. It’s changing aspect ratio. A 16:9 landscape clip from a camera doesn’t fit Instagram’s 9:16 vertical layout, and stretching it would look ridiculous. Cropping picks the right rectangle out of the wider frame instead.

NextConvert offers preset aspect ratios for every major platform (9:16 vertical, 1:1 square, 4:5 portrait, 16:9 widescreen, 21:9 cinema) plus custom dimensions. The interactive picker lets you drag the crop window over a preview so you can see what stays and what goes before committing.

Cropping is lossless within the kept area. We don’t resample or re-scale, we just write a new file containing only the pixels inside your box. The picture is exactly as sharp as the original.

When to use it

Landscape to vertical

Cut a 16:9 clip down to 9:16 for Reels, Shorts, or TikTok without distortion.

Square for Instagram feed

Crop to 1:1 to maximise feed real estate compared with a letterboxed landscape.

Remove black bars

Cut letterbox bars off a video you downloaded so it fills the player.

Hide sensitive areas

Trim out a portion of the frame that includes a face, a screen, or a license plate.

Step-by-step guide

  1. 1

    Upload the video

Drop your clip in. The first frame appears in the editor.

Pick or drag the crop window

Choose a preset aspect ratio or drag the corners of the crop box. Position the box over the part of the frame you want to keep.

  3. 3

    Apply and download

We produce the cropped clip and stream it back. Quality inside the box is identical to the source.

Tips for the best result

  • When converting landscape to portrait, position the crop box on the subject, usually a face, not the geometric centre.
  • Keep an eye on text or graphics near the edges. Cropping a captioned video can chop the captions off entirely.
  • Combine crop and resize if you also need a specific output resolution after the crop.
